4 years with Dylan

Hey everyone! Today is a super exciting day! 4 years ago, Dylan asked me to be his girlfriend! We were sophomores in high school then, and now we’re sophomores in college. We were so little then, that I even still had my braces on! It’s so weird how fast time has gone by. Since then, Dylan has become my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

We’re just going to spend the day grabbing some yummy breakfast, seeing a movie, and then going to dinner. We’re keepin’ it simple!

In honor of our anniversary, I thought it might be fun for us to answer some questions about each other! We can call it “4 things.” Neither of us will know the other’s answers until we’re both done answering them. Some might be the same and some might be completely different! We’ll see.

4 Things with Sam

4 Favorite Memories

  1. The time he threw pieces of mulch at my window to get my attention.

When I came downstairs, all he wanted was to give me a christmas card and banana bread ;’). Ugh. He’s so cute.

  2. Before we left for college we spent two days filled with him taking me on “mystery dates.”

These consisted of watching airplanes take off from a cute little spot, a cooking class, a movie, and my favorite… he took me kayaking followed with the best picnic I’ve ever had. The whole day I was talking about how I was craving potato salad, and coincidentally, he had packed it for our picnic!

  3. Our 4th day in Vancouver for spring break.

This was the day that we visited the Sea to Sky Gondola, which was also one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Afterwards, we grabbed some dinner from Whole Foods (apparently, it’s cheaper in Canada??) and cheesecakes from Shoppers and ate at his grandma’s apartment at a little tiny side table by the couch. I actually shared more from this trip in a blog post!

  4. Riding ATV’s around at our friend’s cabin.

I’m such a girl when it comes to these things. These things meaning I always need someone to unhook fish off the fishing hook for me or if I get mud on me I need to shower right away. Fun story… There was a frog inside of the ATV and I made him stop it as I ran out screaming. The rest of the time after, I was paranoid about more frogs being in there. BUT DON’T GET ME WRONG, it was still one of my fave mems!

4 Things I’ve Learned

  1. Nothing works without good communication.

It’s not only important to just know how the other person is feeling, but to genuinely try to understand why and where they’re coming from.

  2. Patience is everything!

Sometimes you just need to step back, relax, and get a different perspective. You don’t always need to act right away.

  3. Don’t take things for granted.

Sometimes I get too used to all of the nice things Dylan does for me and I forget to appreciate them as much as I should.

  4. Guys can’t take a hint.

If you’re mad, tell them. If you’re sad, tell them. They’re not going to be able to figure it out very much on their own. It really just saves a lot of time if you’re up front about what’s wrong.

4 of our Favorite Dates to Go on

  1. Sitting on the couch watching shows and eating Ben & Jerry’s
  2. Trips to D.C
  3. Frozen yogurt runs
  4. Valentine’s tradition to go to this Mexican resteraunt and ice skating

4 Bucket List Items

  1. Stay in those huts on top of water in Bora Bora
  2. Live in NYC for a least a little bit
  4. See the Northern Lights

4 Things I’m Grateful for About Him

  1. No matter what the situation is, he never leaves, even if I want him to :p. Whether it’s me taking an hour to snowboard down a mountain or if I’m having an off day and I tell him I want to be alone or if I’m too out of shape to hike. I’m telling you, he’s always there for me and I appreciate it so much.
  2. His motivation to succeed rubs off on me.
  3. He thinks I’m funny!
  4. I can tell him ANYTHING without being judged.

4 Favorite Memories

  1. Recently going to New York.

I recently surprised Sam with a trip to New York, it was so spontaneous and fun but it was really tiring trying to fit everything in.

  2. Visiting Myrtle together.

We’ve visited Myrtle Beach twice, once with my family and once with hers and both times we’ve gone it’s been an amazing time!

  3. Our first college formal

This was our first formal together and it was a great time. She made me an awesome cooler!

  4. Kayaking on the Potomac River & picnicking.

One summer we had an great day together where we went up to the Potomac river and kayaked! It was hot and surprisingly really tiring but nonetheless fun! After a long day of Kayaking, we chilled by the riverbank and had a nice lunch!

4 Things I’ve Learned

  1. Relationships take patience and some give and take.

You learn to make sacrifice for the other person and the relationship. Also, patience is major key, a relationship won’t make it far if you’re impatient with your significant other

  2. Seeing from another’s point of view.

You often don’t think of what it’s like from someone else’s point of view, a relationship helps you gain perspective on that

  3. You can motivate each other to reach your goals.

Whether it’s applying to internships or looking for summer work, it’s nice if someone’s there to keep you focuses

  4. Even if you’re very different people you can become best friends with someone.

sometimes Sam and I find we are complete opposites in some situations but she’s still my best friend

4 of our Favorite Dates to Go on

  1. Topgolf  (if you haven’t heard of it, it’s essentially a driving range but 100x better with food, lights, games. It’s hard to explain but it’s a whole new level to golfing)
  2. Going to see a movie
  3. Having dinner at IHOP
  4. Going on hikes and other adventures

4 Bucket List Items

  1. Scuba dive in Dubai
  2. Live in New York City
  3. Visit the 7 (new) Wonders of the World
  4. Learn another Language

4 Things I’m Grateful for About Her

  1. I can completely be myself around her and she doesn’t judge me. Almost always when you’re with friends/family you don’t completely open up to them, but she allows me to do this
  2. She pushes me to improve myself – she wants me to succeed and she pushes me to not be lazy
  3. She helps me with writing – obviously I’m not as great as a writer as her and she often helps me with my essays and papers and makes them 100% better
  4. Keeps my room clean – extremely important

4 Ways to Describe Her

  1. Sarcastic – she’s extremely sarcastic but so am I
  2. Loving – she’s the most loving person I know and she gives it to me unconditionally
  3. Impatient – sometimes she gets impatient (especially when she’s waiting for her birthday to come around or to open presents)
  4. Perfect – I can’t use a better word, she’s my everything and I couldn’t ask for any more

4 of Her Favorite Things

  1. Watching Youtube videos
  2. Avocados
  3. Going on adventures
  4. Online shopping

4 Things People Might Not Know About Her

  1. She’s very artsy and creative – when you see the cute crafts she makes and the gifts she gives me – she thinks out of the box and always thinks of something cool
  2. She can understand Tagalog (Filipino language) – she’s never taken any classes but she’s able to almost completely understand it when other people are talking
  3. She’s plays volleyball – most people don’t know since she doesn’t play too much anymore but she played intramural and was one of the best on the team! Very fun watching her!
  4. She can rap Busta Rhymes’ verse on “Look at me now’ and it’s very entertaining to watch. (I can’t even come close)

It was so fun filling these questions out about each other! I loved reading his answers!

Thanks for reading! <3

    Sammi and Dylan
Looks like you’ve already figured out a lot of things that make a relationship last–things that take most couples a lifetime to figure out (if they even get to it at all). Congrats you two!!!
